Stories behind
the difference

Four short reads on how a British occasionwear house designs, grades, drafts and produces the dresses you celebrate in.

Sustainably Minded
§ One

Sustainably Minded

Going direct means we make what we mean to make — not what a wholesale forecast tells us to.

Designing in-house, producing in smaller runs

Because every style is drawn in our own London studio, we control how much of it exists. Collections are cut in smaller, repeatable runs and reordered when women actually want them, rather than pushed out in volumes a season ahead and discounted into landfill.

Fabric chosen for the long life of a dress

We favour mills we have worked with for years, and fabrics that hold their finish through wear, travel and a warm-weather wedding — a dress worn to four celebrations is the most sustainable dress we can sell you.

“An occasion dress should outlive the occasion.”

Considered production is not a campaign for us — it is the practical result of designing, sampling and selling under one roof.

Truly Size Inclusive
§ Two

Truly Size Inclusive

Inclusivity is a pattern-cutting decision long before it is a marketing one.

Graded, not scaled

A dress is not made inclusive by multiplying its measurements. Each silhouette is re-graded across the run so bust, waist and hip relationships stay true, and support is engineered where the body needs it.

Fitted on real bodies

We fit on multiple bodies within a size run, then check the same style in movement — sitting, dancing, reaching for a photograph — because that is where occasionwear either works or does not.

“Glamour excludes no one — age, shape, ability or skin tone.”

The result is a wardrobe where the size you take is simply a size, not a compromise.

Women-Led Design
§ Three

Women-Led Design

The people drawing these dresses are the people who wear them to weddings.

Designed from lived experience

Our design floor is predominantly women, and that shows up in the details: sleeves that photograph well, straps that stay put, linings that behave in the heat, pockets where a phone can actually live.

Comfort as a design brief

Every sample is reviewed for how it feels after four hours, not four minutes. If a silhouette cannot be worn through a full celebration, it does not leave the studio.

“How a woman wants to feel comes before how a dress wants to look.”

It is a quieter kind of design authority — and it is the reason our dresses are worn again.

Designed In-House
§ Four

Designed In-House

Three decades of British occasionwear, still drawn by hand before anything is cut.

From sketch to sample under one roof

Each season begins as a drawing in our London studio, moves to a house block, and is sampled and corrected in the same building. Nothing is bought in, re-labelled or traced from another brand’s rail.

A house handwriting

Owning the process is what gives Goddiva a recognisable line — the drape, the bow, the pleat, the finish at the hem. It is why a Goddiva dress reads as ours from across a room.

“What you wear is unique to Goddiva.”

And now that handwriting is being drawn with India in mind — for sangeets, receptions and every celebration in between.
